My life makes so much more sense today. I had a revelation last night. I was attempting to make my own pattern for this hat. As I was making a triangular panel I noticed my decreases looked weird so I looked for some guidance online. I was watching the video at knitting-help.com and I saw that I knit completely differently.

So after looking some more, I found out that I did combination knitting. Which is a combination of western and eastern styles – you end up twisting the stitch in one row, and then untwisting it in the next. It’s faster and easier than the other techniques, but you have to do increases and decreases a little differently. Also, knitting in the round is different since you aren’t flipping your work, you don’t do the untwisting part.

Anyway there’s a woman who has a website about this…and she live in South Orange, NJ! That’s like 15 minutes away.
