I got started working on Blackberry this weekend. I completed the back section and then hung up my needles to do some cleaning. I think I’m going to skip the bobbles on the sleeves and just do the cables. I’m just not a bobble type of girl.

I used 2 strands of Lion Brand Baby Soft (which is medium sportweight) held together. I don’t recall what hook size.
headband
Start off with a chain in a multiple of 10 or 12 (12 for higher crown peaks) that fits around the head. Join (make sure its not twisted). Ch 1. SC in each stitch. Join. Keep doing these rows until it’s the right height.
ear flaps
determine width (x)and placement for earflaps. (for mine it was 20 st). Do X sc into bottom of headband. *Ch 1 and turn. Do X-1 sc. (basically you are not going to do a sc into the ch 1 of the previous row)* Do this until the earflap is the desired length. In the bottom row you might want to skip a sc or 2 to get more taper.
repeat on other side.
crown
starting in the back of the head. *sc, hdc, dc, tr, dtr, ttr, dtr, tr, dc, hdc, sc, sl* repeat around. If you used a multiple of 10 for the headband then it’s *sc, hdc, dc, tr, dtr, tr, dc, hdc, sc, sl*.
finishing
I did a bit of finishing to make it look nicer. I slipstitched around the whole bottom of the hat. I ch1 around the bottom of the earflap to give myself somewhere to tie the braids to. Then I used a smaller hook and 1 strand and single crocheted along the top of the crown to give it more stiffness. I did 2 sc in each stitch except for the top of the point where I did 2 sc, ch1 in one stitch and then 3sc in the other - this was my attempt to make it more pointy at the top. You can probably fiddle around and see what works best for you. Then I wove in my end and tied on my braids. And voila.
Sorry..I know that is messy but I haven’t totally worked the pattern out yet. Let me know if it doesn’t make sense to you.
