Jogless Stripes by Spiraling

Grumperina has some instructions on her site about how to do jogless stripes in the round by spiraling. It’s pretty interesting. I shall have to give this a try. Maybe a nice striped hat is in order.

Donating Yarn

I have been organizing a craft room for my mom and I in our basement. In doing so gathered all the yarn I own…and lets just say it scary.  So I took out all the yarn that I know I won’t use - all acrylic - LB Homespun, red heart, etc. Some of it is even in bags! I am even making my mom get rid of her crappy acrylic yarn.

So anyway I wanted to donate it and so I just did some searching and Halycon Yarn has a listing of charity groups that will take knitted items and/or yarn.

I am probably going to send mine to Knit-Net since it’s the closest and most of my yarn is random and not really suited to blankets.

I hereby resolve….

I was just thinking about some of my projects and realized I have quite a few almost finished things. Not all of them are in Ravelry either. For example, I’ve got a Tempting II 80% done in a bag somewhere. My Rusted Root is technically done however I don’t like how the ribbed collar folds over so I want to redo it. Then I’ve got that edging on my Hemlock blanket to finish.

So I am pledging to not start any new projects until I complete those three things.

I am about 75% done with my first Endpaper Mitt. I realized I messed up in the middle of my second pattern repeat..but the colors are so low contrast you barely notice.

Pink Visor Beanie

I am also working on making a prototype for a visor beanie pattern. A ton of people asked me for a pattern. I’ve got the main part done but I don’t like how the visor part turned out so I need to redo it and then there shall soon be pattern. Does anyone want to test it for me when it’s ready?

It will look something like this but the hat will be plain stockinette rather than moss stitch. I did it that way because this pattern is really just about how to add the visor. You can knit any type of hat and then add a short row visor to it.

Earflap hats revealed

I know mentioned my hat knitting streak recently but there were no photos, and really what fun is that?

So since the sun is shining and there’s still snow I took my slr outside for a photo shoot.

The hat on the left is Rowan Spray that I got really cheap from the Webs sale. It’s an improvised pattern that I did on size 15 needles. It took about an hour.

The hat on the right is also an improvised pattern. I used Lamb’s Pride Bulky and 10 1/2 needles. I decided to knit it from the top down so that I could get the cables on the earflaps lined up the way I wanted them. I’ve never knitted a hat top down before, so I cast on 8 and increased 8 stitches every other row. It seemed to work out well.

I knit some fingerless gloves when I was in Utah. This is Jo Sharp DK tweed on size 6 needles. I made up this pattern and did somewhat of a thumb gusset. I used less than 1 ball of yarn.

Endpaper Mitts in ProgressFinally I started working on some Endpaper Mitts using Knit Picks Gloss that I have in my stash. I’m using size 2 dpns. This is my first time doing stranded colorwork and it took me a while to find a way that worked for me. At first I tried knitting one color continental and the other English style, but my tensions were so different that one color was all blobby. My new technique involves both colors on my left hand and a ring. I’ll ’splain more later.

Another reason to move to Portland

Yarnia PDX

Make your own yarn! No, this is not spinning…it’s plying.

You pick your base singles and they ply and wind it for you. Rad idea!

Earflap Madness!

In the past 5 days I’ve knitted 3 earflap hats. Granted, 2 of them were on size 15 needles, but still that’s a  lot of hat!

I need to get my camera out as I have a backlog of FO’s to take photos of.

Webs makes good

Remember my last post where I complained about Webs taking over two weeks to ship my order? Well I just got an email from them apologizing for the delays and offering a free shipping coupon to anyone who ordered from December 25 to January 15.  I’m glad they recognized this problem and tried to make it up to their customers.

So Slow to Ship

When Webs (aka yarn.com) was doing a clearance sale I decided to order a few things. This was January 3. My order shipped January 15. It took them 12 days from when I placed me order to ship it. Ridiculous!

I think 2 days a reasonable expectation and anything over 5 is really bad service - so you can see where I’m going about the 12 days it took to ship this order. And it’s not even free shipping.

Probably won’t be ordering with them again.

Tilted Duster Progress

Now that the Christmas knitting is over I’m working on something for me! I started knitting the Tilted Duster (aka fall sweater)  from Interweave Knits back in October. I put it down to various other small projects. In the past week I’ve made a bunch of progress; the back, left front, right front and most of a sleeve are done. Yay! Hopefully I can finish up both sleeves this week so I can start working on the skirt.

I’m going to be going to some training in NYC next week which mean some commuting time (God I miss mass transit!). And of course commuting time = knitting time.
