Another reason to move to Portland
Make your own yarn! No, this is not spinning…it’s plying.
You pick your base singles and they ply and wind it for you. Rad idea!

In the past 5 days I’ve knitted 3 earflap hats. Granted, 2 of them were on size 15 needles, but still that’s a lot of hat!
I need to get my camera out as I have a backlog of FO’s to take photos of.

I got myself a subscription of Interweave Knits and of course they sent me the Winter 2007 issue that I already own. So if anyone wants a copy I’ll sell you my extra for $5 including shipping. Leave a comment.

Remember my last post where I complained about Webs taking over two weeks to ship my order? Well I just got an email from them apologizing for the delays and offering a free shipping coupon to anyone who ordered from December 25 to January 15. I’m glad they recognized this problem and tried to make it up to their customers.

When Webs (aka yarn.com) was doing a clearance sale I decided to order a few things. This was January 3. My order shipped January 15. It took them 12 days from when I placed me order to ship it. Ridiculous!
I think 2 days a reasonable expectation and anything over 5 is really bad service - so you can see where I’m going about the 12 days it took to ship this order. And it’s not even free shipping.
Probably won’t be ordering with them again.

Now that the Christmas knitting is over I’m working on something for me! I started knitting the Tilted Duster (aka fall sweater) from Interweave Knits back in October. I put it down to various other small projects. In the past week I’ve made a bunch of progress; the back, left front, right front and most of a sleeve are done. Yay! Hopefully I can finish up both sleeves this week so I can start working on the skirt.
I’m going to be going to some training in NYC next week which mean some commuting time (God I miss mass transit!). And of course commuting time = knitting time.

There was a cool sweater in a recent Interweave Knits that I wanted to make, but the instructions called for steeks and I had no idea what they were. They also didn’t really explain them in the pattern.
So I am exited to have just come across a series of articles on steeks by Eunny Jang. Now that I think of it I think the pattern told you to refer to an article Eunny did in a previous issue of Interweave Knits, but of course I didn’t have that.
I also just got myself a subscription to Interweave Knits. Yay!
Plus my Christmas gift from mommyclaus arrived yesterday - a Strauch Jumbo Ball Winder!! Double Yay! I’m already discussing the pedal controlled variable speed motor I want to build for it with my dad. It’s great having an electronics genius in the family. I wound 3 balls of peruvia for my Tilted Duster yesterday and my arms were killing me.

Knit Lit has started up a Best of 2007 meme for knitters.
Here’s mine:
My best FO is my Rusted Root Sweater. It’s technically done, but I’m still planning on frogging the collar and doing it a different way so it doesn’t fold over funny. Still it’s my first sweater. Yay!
2. best FO of the year made by a blog you link to
Well I read a lot more in bloglines than are actually linked to here. I should add those. So I’m going off that instead. Anyway I adored Brooklyn Tweed’s Hemlock Ring Blanket. In fact I’m 95% done with mine. I’ll finish it as soon as my new christmas present ball winder arrives.
3. best yarn you tried
Malabrigo Chunky - it’s pretty, squishy, soft and knits up quick. I love it!
4. best new book/mag/pattern of 2007
5. best new knitting technique or gadget you tried in 2007
Ravelry is a gadget, right?
6. top 5 inspirations–what five things inspired you the most over the past year?
7. designer who most amazed & inspired you throughout the year
Zephyr Style - These ladies manage to create designs that are very hip and quick to knit. There’s nothing worse than a pattern that takes so long to knit that by the time you’re done it’s out of style. Plus I’d wear any of their designs.
8. knitting resolutions for 2008–what’s next for you and your blog?

This is the bulk of stuff I knit and crocheted in 2007. There’s a few things missing. While I know I knit a lot of hats, it’s rather eye opening to realize just how many I’ve made in a year.
